Experimenting With Soundscapes In Krotos Studio

Krotos recently updated their sound design platform, Krotos Studio. Designed to make the process of creating soundscapes as easy as possible, Krotos Studio allows users to make evolving and varied sound effects and ambiences from any of the 100’s of included presets, which Krotos refer to as Sound Scenarios.

The updated version brings a large number of additional new sound scenarios which span several categories and greatly increase the creative possibilities of the software. All of the scenarios support the multi-out function. This is a feature which was added a few months ago and it allows each of the 4 engines within Krotos Studio to be output independently and recorded to their own tracks within your DAW. This opens up opportunities for further editing, levelling and processing. Sounds can an all be performed in real time using your mouse and many of them can also be triggered from a MIDI keyboard.

In the video below, Paul Maunder puts Krotos Studio through its paces, testing out some of the new presets and demonstrating the use of the multi-out feature in Pro Tools.

Krotos Studio can be used for a wide variety of purposes from film trailer sound design to the creation of abstract soundscapes, or for more conventional atmos or foley sounds. Categories include Ambiences, Cinematic, Footsteps, Foley, Whoosh, Weather, Vehicle, Weapon and Interface. A free version is available, giving users access to 14 versatile sound scenarios, or you can subscribe to the full version on a monthly or annual basis, meaning you have access to over 100 sound scenarios plus additional ones which are added every month.
