Exponential Audio Plugins Now Working On Monterey

We’ve been receiving reports that Exponential Audio reverb plugins are now working on macOS Monterey macOS 12.3. After some extensive testing we can tell you what does and does not work, see below.

Although unconfirmed by iZotope it seems the issue has been solved by an Apple update.

Speaking to Matt Hill from reverb gurus LiquidSonics he told us;

“I am pretty sure there was an issue with the code affecting the PACE security wrapper. It seems an Apple update has rectified this issue in macOS 12.3.”

A further benefit is that the plugins also seem to be working on M1 Macs via Rosetta 2, according to several user reports in forums and on social media.

The news that Exponential Audio reverbs are working will be welcome to news to the industry, many post audio users have made Exponential Audio reverbs a key part of their workflow.

However, the industry is still hoping that iZotope, the owners of Exponential Audio, will prioritise porting the plugins to Apple Silicon. Although iZotope has said it will be porting these plugins it has not given a firm date.

An Alternative Option

Community member Philippe Brecl says he has the reverbs working in Pro Tools 2021.12 using Blue Cat Patchworks with some additional CPU load. Another option worth considering.

iZotope Comment

On a Facebook thread discussing the future of Exponential Audio Reverbs with Apple Silicon and macOS Monterey, Bergame Periaux posted this response from iZotope support…

“Before iZotope had acquired Exponential Audio, the plugins had been coded using a different language called Juice, which our developers are not as familiar with. We are currently working on looking into what updates need to be made in order to reach M1 and OS 12 compatibility.”

However, we would like to point out that in iZotope’s Compatibility with Apple Silicon knowledge article, none of the Exponential Audio plugins are listed to become compatible with Apple Silicon either natively or via Rosetta 2 in 2022.
