Following their teaser earlier this week, FabFilter have now released their Pro-R2 reverb plugin with a raft of new features, read on for the full details…
The significant update to Pro-R builds upon the foundation of its predecessor, introducing comprehensive multichannel compatibility, two brand-new reverb algorithms, Impulse Response (IR) import and replication, ducking and gating functions, analog-style saturation, and much more. Whilst these new additions mark a notable leap forward, Pro-R2 maintains the aesthetics and exceptional sound quality with which existing users are familiar. Let’s take a closer look…
NEW - Full Immersive Audio Support
Pro-R2 users can now place reverbs in three-dimensional space with support for immersive channel layouts up to 9.1.6 Dolby Atmos. the plugin automatically configures itself for multichannel formats whenever it is added to a surround channel, and individual Decay Rate and Post EQ bands can be applied to any combination of channels using the new Speakers panel. The Surround Settings panel offers easy control over the balance of reverb parameters between the front and back of the immersive space. The implementation of surround cross-feeding enhances the sense of space, making Pro-R 2 a powerful tool for creating immersive audio experiences.
NEW - Vintage and Plate Reverb Styles
Pro-R 2 introduces two new reverb algorithms which broaden Pro-R 2’s spatializing remit out from the realistic physical environments for which its predecessor was known into more overtly synthetic textural territory. The 'Vintage' style is inspired by classic digital reverb units of the '80s and '90s, delivering long, bright, hyper-real spatial ambiences. On the other hand, 'Plate' provides the evocative metallic sound of plate reverb, making it ideal for drums and vocals. These new styles expand Pro-R 2's capabilities, allowing users to explore retro flavors in their mixes and venture into more synthetic textural territory.
NEW - Impulse Response Import
This new addition allows users to import impulse responses and have them automatically recreated as algorithmic setups, closely matching their sonic characteristics. Whether you want to experiment with a vast array of free impulse responses available online or recreate your favorite vocal booth, drum room, or hardware reverb in Pro-R 2, IR import opens up a world of possibilities for sound design.
NEW - Extended Reverb Parameters And Controls
Pro-R 2 offers a wider range of tools for users to design their dream reverbs. The wet signal level can be manipulated to drop whenever the dry signal is present with the Ducking control. The Thickness knob allows for dialing in density and saturation, while the tempo-syncable Auto Gate lets you get creative with rhythm. The Freeze button allows you to capture and hold the reverb tail indefinitely.
NEW - Full Featured Preset Browser
Improving on the simple hierarchical menu that will be familiar to existing Pro-R fans, the updated plugin’s new preset browser makes it easier to navigate the factory library and user presets. Users can now assign editable tags for filtered searching, set presets as favourites for one-click filtering, and add author names and text descriptions. What’s more, if the original Pro-R is installed all its presets appear in Pro-R 2’s library as well.
