In Summary
Marking the audio plugin giant’s arrival to the collaborative working arena, Waves Stream lets anyone plug into mixes from anywhere in the world. Here we show you how to get the best out of its simple Send and Receive components.
Going Deeper
In the past few years, more and more people in the industry have found themselves working from home. This might be those who started out working in ‘proper’ commercial studios, but equally these remote collaborators are independent artists who don’t need permission from labels or management to get things done.
One type of indy production might see an engineering producer and artist, with one streaming to the other for mix review. With a little thought, things could go in the other direction to allow takes to be recorded remotely. Also, most engineers understand the importance of checking mixes on different systems, and the more ways there are to get sounds out there for reference, the better.
Using Waves Stream
Waves Stream is the latest plugin and web service designed to make high-quality audio sharing part of a collaborative creative process. It is comprised of the Waves Stream plugins with Send and Receive variants available for DAW use at both ends, as well as a cross-platform web app that allows listeners to hear mixes on anything, including mobile and/or desktop devices. This lets engineers share mixes for instant feedback, or receive audio for collaboration. Other unique features include built-in plugin talkback controls that use DAW sidechain inputs, and one-time, single-use links that last 5 minutes with optional password protection.
In the video we show how Waves Stream can be used by collaborators to send and receive mixes, as well as for engineers to use as a referencing tool for review on any device. We start by showing how to use the simple send (engineer) and receive (artist) instances, and how talk back can be instantiated as well. We then show how its QR codes can be used to move mixes onto just about any device out there.
