In this week’s podcast, Julian is joined by Luke Goddard and Robbie Dwyer. Two Pro Tools users who are happy to use whichever DAW gets the job done. We discuss what life is like outside our personal comfort zones.
Luke Goddard
Luke Goddard is an engineer and musician who has been living with instruments, mics, consoles, tapes, and gear of all shapes and sizes since he first started playing music over 30 years ago in the days of Portastudios and MIDIVerbs. Away from Production Expert, Luke is a freelance recording and mixing engineer, videographer, and multi-instrumentalist for anyone with room on the bus
Robbie Dwyer
Robbie Dwyer is a lecturer with Winchester University, as well as a freelance Recording and Mixing Engineer, specialising in providing a remote recording service using Cubase. In addition to this he is making plenty of noise as a gigging musician, having played in a variety of bands from 60’s Beat Combos to 10 piece soul outfits and is currently playing a punk band.
Arturia
Arturia has a wide selection of software effects, including 3 Compressors, 3 Filters, 3 Preamps, and 3 Delays You'll Actually Use. The latest release, 3 Delays You'll Actually Use, includes Delay TAPE-201, Delay MEMORY BRIGADE, and the unique and experimental Delay ETERNITY. A bundle of selected effects, called the AudioFuse Creative Suite, is included with all AudioFuse audio interfaces. Visit arturia dot com to find out more on the Effects You'll Actually Use.
Talking Points
Some people talk about their relationship with their DAW in rather monogamous terms. You’re both Pro Tools users, do you “see other DAWs?” If so, which?
Can you give me a couple of examples of cool features in other DAWs which might tempt an old Pro Tools guy like me to put the time into another DAW?
Is there something you miss from Pro Tools when you’re in your other DAW?
What about tracking? Have you done a band tracking session in your Other DAW? Comments?
Is there a DAW you haven’t tried that you’d like to try?
