McDSP Announce BOB Plugin for APB And More

McDSP’s foray into real analogue hardware saturation and compression gets an additional flavour, while some other of the company’s creations are set for wider recognition… We have the details.

Many readers of the blog will be aware of McDSP’s APB box. This 1U box of tricks gives real analogue processing that is controllable and recallable from DAW plugins that are used just like an audio plugin. You can read all about APB here where we take a deep dive into its MO and sounds.

BOB APB Plug-in

McDSP has now announced the all new BOB APB Plug-in for NAMM 2024. The BOB APB plug-in boosts low frequencies in the same way as the original BOB module from the 6060 Ultimate Module collection, with additional analogue processing options.

All original BOB module controls are in the BOB APB plug-in - Bias, Frequency, Squash, Rate, and Bias Modes A and B. A new two stage analogue signal path in the BOB APB plug-in further enhance the original bass optimized bias using three new controls - Gain, Trim/HR (Headroom), and Analog Modes I and II. Metering of the overall gain reduction, Squash gain reduction, input, and output, is shown via two VU style meters on the far left and right of the user interface.

BOB APB Plug-in Key Features:

• Unique bass optimized bias (BOB) algorithm.

• Two stage analogue gain section.

• Adjustable analogue compression and saturation.

• VU style metering of input, output, overall gain reduction and Squash gain reduction.

• Sample accurate automation of analogue processing.

The estimated ship date of the BOB APB plug-in is March 2024.

KD-1 Kinetic Drive Goes For A Gong

In other development for APB, McDSP’s KD1 Kinetic Drive APB Plug-in has been selected as a TEC Award Finalist under the Signal Processing Software (Effects) Category. The KD1 Kinetic Drive APB plug-in provides direct control over many analogue saturation attributes of the APB hardware, for a variety of sounds from subtle harmonic overtones to complete sonic mayhem.

APB Gets Low Latency Mode

McDSP has also released a public beta of its new low latency mode for all APB plug-ins for Pro Tools versions 2023.12 and later versions. With this update, APB plug-ins can be used at any hardware buffer size, for latency as low as <5 milliseconds. This update, available for Intel and Apple silicon processors, is available in the latest APB plug-ins download from the McDSP website.

SA-3 Spectral Processor Goes Windows

McDSP’s new SA-3 Spectral Processor will be available for Windows in February 2024. The SA-3 takes the algorithms of the Engineering Emmy Award winning SA-2 Dialog Processor and adds over 1,000 bands of processing, a user programmable Bias curve, unique Focus, Range, and Density control over spectral processing, side chain support and mid/side processing.
