Our Swedish friends at Toontrack, who recently announced the forthcoming EZdrummer 3, have broadened their range of EZbass expansions with the release of the Acoustic EBX.
Featuring a traditional four-string fretted acoustic bass guitar as well as a custom MIDI library and a broad range of mix-ready presets covering tones tailored for both amped and acoustic scenarios, Acoustic EBX is the ninth title in the company’s quickly growing family of EBX expansions.
The Instrument
Toontrack recorded the Taylor GS Mini Bass for the Acoustic EBX, capturing the instrument with both an external condenser microphone as well as an onboard piezo pickup. It offers the absolute best of both worlds in terms of tone – on the one hand, you have the natural, deep and inherent timbre of the acoustic instrument itself and, on the other, a direct and almost electric bass-like flavour.
“When looking for bass for this project, we had our minds set on one that didn’t just have great acoustic qualities, it also needed a solid electric tone. This bass really ticked all the boxes and outperformed the lot of basses we tried on every level. This is simply a remarkably versatile and great-sounding instrument.” comments Ulf Edlund, EZbass lead sound designer.
