Using Krotos Plugins To Add Textures To Voice Recordings

In this video for Production Expert, Paul Maunder demonstrates the power and versatility of combining two Krotos plug-ins for dialogue processing. By using Dehumaniser II in conjunction with Reformer Pro, a tremendous amount of variation is possible.

Previously we covered Workflow Power Tips To Get The Best From Your Krotos Plugins. This included using the output of Weaponiser to trigger Reformer Pro. In one of the examples, Weaponiser triggers footsteps and Reformer adds a layer of cloth foley.

For dialogue processing of creature and monster sounds, Dehumaniser II is a powerful tool which allows you to creatively manipulate an input signal via a number of modules which can be interconnected via a node based system.

There are 10 modules to choose from and they can be combined and routed however you like using a combination of series and parallel routing. Modules include a ring modulator, pitch shifting, noise generator, granular, sample trigger, flanger/chorus, delay pitch shift, scrubbing convolution, spectral shifting and a vocoder. If you‘re not one for manually tweaking settings though, a great set of presets are included too.

With a live microphone input to Dehumaniser II and a send to Reformer Pro, an extra level of texture can be added, as shown in the video below.

Reformer Pro is responsive to pitch and dynamics so it works extremely well with voices. The combination of Dehumaniser II and Reformer Pro makes for a very powerful voice processing system which is responsive to live inputs or existing recordings. This performance based approach means you can focus more on experimentation. It feels like a more organic workflow than manually editing sound effects.

Krotos currently have an Autumn sale on, with 50% off sound design bundles and SFX libraries until 30th September.
