Whilst Krotos’ Reformer Pro is most commonly used to trigger foley sounds, it can also be used to add texture to both music and sounds effects. Paul Maunder gives it a try…
Regular readers of the blog will be well aware of Reformer Pro from Krotos. It’s a plug-in which allows you to perform pre-recorded audio instantly. We’ve featured it previously, including recently where we looked at adding textures to voice recordings. Reformer Pro uses a live audio input or pre-recorded files to trigger playback of a variety of sounds from a library. It’s actually more clever than that though. The pitch, timing and intensity of the trigger sound directly affects the composite sound generated by the plug-in.
Reformer Pro includes a variety of sounds as standard but many additional libraries are also available from Krotos. Two of my favourites are the Elements bundle and Penguin Grenade Arcs and Sparks library. Elements includes a range of fire, water, ice and air sounds and Arcs and Sparks covers electricity, sparks and sci-fi. Four sounds can be loaded into Reformer Pro at a time and you can easily blend between them by dragging the yellow dot in the X/Y pad within the plug-in.
Using Reformer Pro With Music
Whilst Reformer Pro is most commonly used to trigger foley sounds, it can also be used to add texture to both music and sounds effects. As with all of the plug-ins from Krotos, experimentation is key with this. Check out the video below to see how Reformer Pro can be used to supplement music and sound effects.
Right now, the Krotos’ Black Friday sale is live with all of their plug-ins, bundles and SFX libraries on offer including Reformer Pro and the Elements and Arcs and Sparks libraries. The sale ends 15th December 2022.
