In Summary
Seventh Heaven Professional’s Bricasti M7 muse is represented by a dedicated algorithm in the audio plugin. There are however two other types covering both classic Lexicon and AMS sounds, further expanding Seventh Heaven Professional’s usefulness.
Going Deeper
Once upon a time, the studio landscape was dominated by a breed of reverb that had successfully consigned most electro-acoustic effects to history: the rack mounted digital reverberator. Most reading this now enjoy a tonne of ITB digital space makers (and a sprinkling of hardware boxes) with some directly descended from late-mid twentieth century DSP. One of the original hardware reverbs to lead the way was (and is) the Bricasti M7, famed for its algorithmic engine that delivers convolution-like realism.
Carrying on the M7 tradition is Liquidsonics’ Seventh Heaven Professional audio plugin. Based around the company’s Fusion IR technology, Seventh Heaven uses a dedicated algorithm to deliver its antecedent’s sound, however, it does more. You can read more about how Fusion IR works here in Julian’s article.
Three Famous Flavours
Following a recent update, Seventh Heaven Professional now has a total of three types of reverb, reflecting the evolution of the original M7 hardware that inspires it. Alongside the original Version 1 sound, Version 2 sets out to bring a brighter, more Lexicon-like sound, however it is intended as an evolution of the 224/480 known to many rather than a duplication. The V2 algorithm also embraces a modulation effect that retains the clarity of V1. The third type was developed to evoke AMS RMX16 flavours without being an out-and-out emulation.
In the video we put Seventh Heaven Professional’s three types of reverb to work on drums, percussion, and electric piano. Using its tempo-sync’d pre delay, LF multipliers, and Ducker to refine the sounds, we show how its three versions can bring different atmospheres including eighties-infused non-linear signatures. Certainly, Seventh Heaven Professional can now turn its hand to more than ‘just’ being a convincing M7 replacement…
