Pro Tools users should now find UVI Falcon Avid Edition 2.0 in their Avid Accounts, providing they are on a valid rental subscription plan OR an active Upgrade Plan for a perpetual license. There was some debate when Falcon 2 was released by UVI as to whether Pro Tools users would get Falcon 2 as an update to the included Falcon VI. The good news is that we have just learnt that Pro Tools users now get it.
How Do I Get Falcon 2 from UVI?
You need to go to your Avid Master Account and look into your current Pro Tools software entry, in my case it is listed as Pro Tools Ultimate, then scroll down to the UVI Plug-ins section and providing you have a current Avid Pro Tools subscription plan or an active Avid upgrade plan for a Pro Tools perpetual license you should see the same as I see in my Avid Master Account…
You can download and install the software and providing you have a valid Avid Falcon AAX iLok Asset on a connected iLok or in the iLok Cloud, Falcon 2 should run.
UPDATE: Falcon 2 Plugin Missing A File
Please be aware that currently when you instantiate the Avid edition of Falcon 2.0.0, you may see the error message above saying “Unable to mount the Volume from ‘/Library/Application Support/UVI/Falcon/FalconResources.ufs’”.
As a result of our investigations, bizarrely the file is there as you can see below…
On a thread on the DUC, Rick has posted a link to the V1.6 FalconResources.ufs, which gets round the error message shown above BUT because it is the V1.6 file it doesn’t have any of the 2.0 presets.
As part of our investigations, we discovered that if you double click on the v2 FalconResources.ufs in its correct location you get this error message, whereas if you double click on the V1.6 FalconResources.ufs, again in its correct location, you do not get any error message.
This suggests that the file is damaged or incomplete rather than missing as some reports have stated.
We understand that UVI and Avid are aware of this and are working to resolve it as soon as possible.
Consequently, you may not be able to access your Falcon Factory sounds. We understand that UVI and Avid are aware of this and are working to resolve it as soon as possible.
Avid has now removed the ‘UVI Plug-Ins’ section completely from Users accounts.
UPDATE 10th November at 08:00 GMT: Avid Release Falcon V2.0.3
Overnight Avid has released Falcon 2.0.3 which accordingly to reports on the DUC has fixed it. ‘Digiot’ says…
“Looks like Avid fixed it by releasing the FalconAvid 2.0.3 installer. All seems to work after installing 2.0.3, no more error messages and after a quick scan all presets seem to work.”
‘musicman691’ replied…
“I don't think that's a full installer, at least what's in my account. The full Falcon 2.0.3 installer for Macs is 884.78 MB in compressed RAR format. I still say there's something weird going on with Avid user accounts.”
When I went to look in my Avid Master Account, it wasn’t back in the regular position in a separate section labelled UVI Plug-Ins. Instead, as you can see above, I found it in the Avid Complete Plug-In Bundle section, listed as AvidFalcon-2.0.3-Mac.dmg and Falcon-2.0.3-Avid.exe. There is still no sign of the other Falcon components in my Avid Master Account yet. So it looks like Avid have still got some work to do.
UPDATE 11th November 2019 at 15:30 GMT: UVI Plug-Ins Section Restored To Avid Master Accounts
Avid has restored the UVI Plug-Ins section in users Avid Master Accounts following the damaged version and then a fixed 3.0.3 version showing up in a Complete Plugin Bundle section.
UPDATE 13th November 2019: Falcon Factory Finally Updated To Falcon 2 Factory
A few days ago, we also learnt that the Falcon Factory file was still the one from Falcon V1 despite the installer being updated to v2.0.3.
We now understand that the Falcon Factory file has been updated, as you will see it is a slightly larger file and it is the last item in the list. We believe this is the last piece of the jigsaw in the UVI Falcon Avid Edition V2 saga and that we can all get on with using a working version of Falcon 2 with all the necessary files.
It’s a shame that it has taken Avid nearly a week to fully resolve this issue. Let’s hope their QA checks will be a little more rigorous in future.

UVI’s latest instrument Drum Designer is smart by providing users with two workflows within the instrument. Users can either load an entire kit (containing kick, snare, claps and cymbals only) and program their grooves within the built-in sequencer using global effects or they can use an instance of Drum Designers on individual kit pieces and tracks within their DAWs.

It would appear that the Falcon 2 Avid Edition installer that Avid has dropped in our accounts is faulty and an essential file is damaged, or missing important components. Our current advice is not to install the Falcon 2 Avid Edition update until Avid and UVI have resolved the issue. However, if you have already installed V2 then we have a temporary workaround.

UVI state that BeatBox Anthology represents over 50 years of groove boxes, beat machines, drum modules and synth drums. Pro Tools Expert was given an early preview of BeatBox Anthology 2 and we can safely say that UVI hasn't missed a.... beat... at all.
Our friends at UVI have today released a new rotary speaker cabinet emulation plug-in called Rotary. In this video review, we take a look at UVI's latest instrument for Falcon and UVI Workstation Nagoya Harp. The Nagoya Harp, is a Japanese harp instrument from the early 20th century that combined the mechanics from a typewriter. This instrument has an instantly recognisable sound and UVI has done a great job of preserving this traditional Japanese instrument whilst also incorporating some modern day tech making this a unique software instrument.
In the early 1980's Tom Oberheim was instrumental in gaining support from all major synth and keyboard manufacturers for the adoption of MIDI as the standard protocol. Tom achievements didn't end there, he was also an extremely talented designer of synths, effects processors, analog synthesizers, sequencers, and drum machines
The UVX80 feature set and GUI design are both typical UVI, great for regular users of UVI synth instruments as the UVI synth familiarity in this product will quickly diminish any kind of learning curve. There is a vast selection of presets that lend themselves more to rhymic styles of synth sounds. I found I only needed to hold a key down for 2 bars to get inspired to produce a song.
The BeatBox Anthology 2 GUI throws away the drum machine history books meaning users don't have to be vintage drum machine aficionados in order to get great sounding electronic drums in their mixes.
