Following the announcement from Avid Reinstatement Plans have been reduced in price before they are discontinued at the end of 2019, there have been some questions as to whether the code you get when you buy a reinstatement plan will expire. We have the answers…
In the comments to our article Pro Tools Reinstatement Pricing To End Soon - We Have The Facts we were asked…
“Mike, would it be possible to buy reinstatement plans now for 599 and use them in a couple of years to get back on board with current updates whenever one decides to do so or do they need to be "used" by the end of the year?”
A community member responded with an answer quoting an answer they had received from Avid saying…
“I suggest that you proceed in purchasing it through a reseller so they can give you a code for the reinstatement plan and you can use that code to activate it 3 years from now.
You can find the reseller near you using this link: Find a reseller”
Now we have found a definitive answer to a similar question asked on the Avid Pro Tools Users group on Facebook… ”If I buy a reinstatement plan will the code expire, or can I use it a few years down the road if I choose to?”
The answer from François Quereuil, who is Avid’s Director of Audio Product Management says “The code does not expire.”
UPDATE: Avid Revises Reinstatement FAQ To Confirm This
Avid has updated their Knowledge Base Reinstatement FAQ with the following question and answer…
Q: If I purchase a reinstatement and do not immediately redeem, will it expire?
A: No. When you purchase a reinstatement from Avid or a reseller, it does not expire and you are able to use it at a future time. Avid will continue to honor reinstatement redemptions during the promo and after we discontinue selling them.
Based on this answer it would appear that there is nothing stopping someone buying a Reinstatement Plan before December 31st 2019 or while stocks last with Avid Dealers and ‘bank’ the code until you are ready to reinstate and jump back into having an up to date Pro Tools system for at least a year because don’t forget that a reinstatement plan also comes with a 12-month upgrade plan.
