SeekCut is a new, free application which automatically finds picture cuts ready for sound editors to lay background sound FX and the like. We have the details.
One of the most time consuming aspects of Sound Design to picture is going through an entire video to frame accurately find the picture cut points, to speed up the process of laying Background Sound FX, or even cutting the dialogue for a telephone conversation.
Thankfully, ReRecording Mixer and Sound Editor Mark Jensen has been developing a nifty little Free piece of software - SeekCut, to help Mac users of Pro Tools. Here’s how Mark shared the news on Social Media -
For the last few years, I’ve been working on a piece of software that can scan through a H264 or ProRes video file, locate the edits, and export a set of markers indicating where those edits are so that they overlay the ProTools timeline… thus allowing you to be able to see where the next video edit occurs. Ideal for FX and BG editors, and maybe DIAL editors. My intension was to sell this software, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to offer much user support… so I’ve decided to provide it for free. I call it SeekCut… “seek” being the C language word coders use to move about the 1’s and 0’s in a file. Below is the site where you can learn more, and download. Mac OS only (10.10+), ProTools tested only. Tell your friends, share it far and wide.
Watch The Video Before Installing
Having downloaded this software and given it a good workout, my first advice is to watch this incredibly informative video from start to end, BEFORE attempting to run this software - don’t make the mistake I made and just wade in!
An Incredibly Useful Tool
Even if you don’t have to do this day-to -day, this app is so lightweight, it’s worth having installed and ready - you never know when it’ll come in handy.
SeekCut can be downloaded here, where you can also make a donation, if like me, you find that this tool is a valuable timesaver.
